Pearl Across 8 stitches from one pocket lining holder

Okay, so I am knitting in the round, started with four rows of garter and switched to rev stockinette stitch for 8 more rounds, 12 rounds total. Now I get to the row where I am supposed to start the pockets and this is exactly what it says:

Nxt rnd With C, p19, sl next 8 sts to a holder, p across 8 sts from one pocket lining holder, p6, sl next 8 sts to a holder, p across 8 sts from 2nd pocket lining holder, p to end.

Okay, I understand starting with color C and purling 19. I understand to slip the next 8 sts onto a stitch holder. But what does it mean to purl across the 8 stitches that are on the holder? Do I purl into the back of the stitches that are being held to create the second layer of fabric for the pocket? Because what is really weird is that the rest of the pattern after this row NEVER mentions the pockets again?? OY. Any advice would be helpful.

At the website, which unfortunately doesn’t have the pattern, I found some corrections. At the very end of the pattern it says:
Sew pocket linings in place. With C, pick up sts from pocket holders and work in k1, p1 rib for 4 rows. Bind off. Sew in place. But that is all it says in the whole pattern about pockets???

Edited Okay, here is the picture with the weird little pockets on. Still can’t really tell what they want me to do? I am tempted to just leave the pockets off.

I see what you mean. It looks like you knit the pockets to the inside of the sweater at the bottom edge and leave them hanging until the sweater is done. Then they get sewn into place on the inside when you’re done.

The 8 stitches on the holder get a ribbing which gets sewn down?

Is there a picture to look at somewhere?

I haven’t found one online yet. I am going to scan the one I have and post it tonight.

Just when I think I can handle most patterns…

Okay, I added the picture of what the pockets look like.

 I’d leave them off, just because they will look better.

I’m not sure how they go on. :??

Well I am glad it is not just me. I thought I was losing my mind!
