Pattern without shorthand has me stuck

I found a diagonally worked blanket with adorable edging. Upon attempting a trial run of the edge piece, however, I have misunderstood the first row instructions.

“Cast on 8 stitches
Row 1 ( Wrong side) Slip 1, Knit 1,(Yarn fwd knit 2 tog)twice, Yarn fwd Knit 2 (9sts)”
(bbc.co.uk/stoke/my_pages/babywear/hkp/028.shtml)

I interpret this as:
Slip 1, Knit 1, WYF Knit 2 stitches into one (decrease), WYF Knit 2 into one, Knit 1, Knit 1.

But this does not yield 9 stitches at the end.

If anyone could please present a clearer explanation, I would appreciate it. Text or standard shorthand would be excellent.

Thank you.

When you put the yarn in front and knit the next two together, you’re making a yarn-over increase. For every decrease you’re making with the k2tog, you’re also making an increase with the yo, so you should be even at the end.

Slip 1, Knit 1, WYF Knit 2 stitches into one (decrease), WYF Knit 2 into one, Knit 1, Knit 1.

You forgot a 3rd yf or YO. Sl 1 k1, YO, k2tog, YO, k2tog, YO, k2.

Oh, thank you so much! What an obvious thing to have missed.
>.<

Now I can finish this thing! Woot.
