the cable pattern of this sock is very close (you have to be a memeber of www.ravelry.com to see it): http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeycombs-and-diamonds
and you’d have to find an apparopriate hat pattern and incorporate the pattern to it.
Another idea, see if your library has any stitch dictionaries - mine has the Harmony & Stitchionary cables books. You’ll probably have gook luck finding a cable pattern very similar if not the same.
