Pattern Reading Problem- HELP!

Help! (please?!)

I have started this jumper 3 times (not one to be defeated) I am well into it now and all is going really well then suddenly I can’t make head nor tail of the pattern… just when I was getting confident- agh! Hopefully somebody out there can help me I’m literally on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Here is what it says:

K2, M1, K to last 2 sts, M1, K2 - fine
Work 5 rows ending with a WS row - fine
Inc 1 st as before at each end of next row (fine) [B]and 2 foll 6th rows [/B] - what does that mean?

Surely after I’ve worked 5 rows the next row is the 6th row? How can you have 2 6th rows anyway?

Totally confused! Please help!

I think it means to knit 5 rows, increase in next row, knit another 5 rows, increase in next row.

OK, that wording is a bit weird, so I can see why you’re tearing your hair out!

Without seeing a picture or knowing what piece of your sweater you’re working on, I would interpret these instructions to mean:

Inc 1 st as before at each end of next row AND then every following sixth row twice.

In other words, do your increases, then six rows after do increases in the same fashion, and then six more rows later, do increases in the same fashion.

If the pattern is available on line, and you can post a link that would be awesome.

I’m working the back at the moment. I’m about 20cm into it. I’ve decreased to make a waist and am now on the increase again.

I just realised I left out a (possibly) vital piece of information

It reads:
K2, M1, K to last 2 sts, M1, K2 35(39:41:43:47:51)sts
Work 5 rows ending with a WS row
Inc 1 st as before at each end of next row and 2 foll 6th rows.
41(45:47:49:53:57)
Work straight until back measures 44cm ending with a WS row.

I still think though that you are both right- that I need to increase every 6 rows twice.

From the shape of the sweater, that’s certainly what it looks like!

And you can use those numbers at the end of the lines to see, because those are the stitch counts. So after you’ve done all the increases, the number of stitches on your needle will be the number in those parentheses that corresponds to the size you are making.

The abbreviation foll' is common in patterns, it means following. As in the rows after. So2 foll 6th rows’ simply means inc every 6th row after, 2 times. But it’s shorter to write it the way they did.

What I notice is that you just worked 5 rows and the first increase row you are doing will be the 6th row. Then you will continue to work 5 rows and increase again on the 6th row 2 more times.
