Pattern Reading Confusion

I must say I can’t seem to stop knitting!
Anyways, my next project after doing several others, are these Four Rib Braid Cable Fingerless Mitts

with the pattern being a pdf that you open with adobe reader. The link for the pattern itself is just under the picture of the red mitts towards the bottom of the page.

What I am having trouble with is the cable pattern, and trying to follow how she has it laid out.
For the [I]Main Section[/I] she has the cable pattern starting with round 2, going through until cable pattern round 14. The thing I don’t get though, is there are actually 16 rounds in the cable pattern (1-16). Why wouldn’t I start with round 1, and end with round 16?

In the [I]Main Section[/I] it says after cable pattern round 14, go on to the thumb gusset section, but then when I look at the [I]Four Rib Braid Cable Pattern[/I] at the end of listing the rounds, it says to [I]repeat these 16 rounds for pattern[/I].

So, I am assuming this means that I do cable pattern rounds 2-14, then repeat doing cable pattern rounds 1-16? I guess this isn’t making much sense to me! :??

Ok, first of all you are starting on round 2 of the main cable pattern just because that is what flows smoothly out of the ribbing. I have other patterns with similar instructions it’s just how to incorporate your cable out of the ribbing in a smooth transition :slight_smile:

Secondly, you are not ending the cable pattern at round 14. It’s just a note that after round 14 move on to the thumb gusset instructions where you’ll see that you continue with round 15 of the cable pattern while incorporating the thumb gusset. In the footnotes it explains that you can lengthen the gloves by adding another cable pattern repeat but that the thumb gusset needs to begin after row 14.
