Pattern Question

Just when I thought I had my pattern mastered, I come to this…

14th row(k1. m1. k13. m1. k1) twice. 34 sts
15th row Purl. Break A.
16th row (Picot row) With MC, k2. *yfwd. k2tog. rep from * to end of row
17th row and alt rows purl

—And this is where it goes funky, me or the pattern, I’m not sure—
18th row k1. (sl1. k1. psso. k8. k2tog) twice. k1. 22 sts

so, if I do all that I have 22 stitches, but I still have 8 left on my left hand needle. When it says twice am I to do just what is in the () or include the k1? Any suggestions on where I’m going wrong?

Thanks!

You repeat only what’s in the (), but you need to have 13 sts to do it and the k1 at the end.
So it’s k1, skp, k8, k2tog, skp, k8, k2tog, k1 and you have 22 left. You would have started with 26 sts.
