Pattern Question

Quick question, which may be a silly one, but I just want to double-check before I start my project.
The pattern lists the number of stitches to knit for each size: 24,28(x,x,44,48). My size is one of the x’s so what do I knit? Is it 28, is it 32 (following the pattern of +4)? It can’t be 0 because it repeats.
This is a common theme throughout this pattern. For example, the next instruction is to work the above for 2,2(x,x,2.5,2.5).
If I had to guess I would say that I’m knitting the number just before the (
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
If there’s an x or a 0 or - for your size, skip that instruction and go to the next. It may be that there are separate sections in your pattern for the first, 2nd, 5th and 6th sizes and also for the 3rd and 4th sizes. Check and see if there is such a heading in this section of the pattern.
What is the name of your pattern?

Thanks for your response! After reading your advice I looked at the pattern again and that makes sense!
