Pattern Question for a Basic Square

Hi,

I’m attempting my first throw. The throw I am making is made out of squares. Here are the instructions:

Cast on 137 sts.

  1. Row 1: Knit
  2. Row 2: Ssk, *k31, S2KP2; rep from *, end last rep with k2tog - 129 sts rem.

I know how to cast on. I understand to knit the first row, but when I get to row 2, I am totally lost. I just saw the video here on how to Ssk and I think I have that part, but what does the rest of step 2 mean???

Thanks for any help!

It looks like it must mean slip 2, k1, pass 2 slipped stitches over. That would give you a double decrease you need to make the numbers work out.

The pattern should have an explanation somewhere of what the abbreviations mean.

Thanks Ingrid! I found the explanation of the abbreviation. It sounds like what you wrote. It says:

S2KP2 = centered double decrease = slip 2 sts tog k-wise. Knit next st. Pass the 2 slipped sts over the knit st and off needle.

Is there a video here that will show this? I keep trying to picture this in my head, and I don’t see how to do it.

Thanks!

Here is a video for sl1, k1, psso.

In your case you’d slip two stitches off the needle, at the same time as if you were going to knit them, knit one stitch and then pass over the two stitches that you slipped. The video will give you the idea, though.

Thank you so much. I think I have it now. It looks almost like binding off.
