Pattern Interpretation Problem

Hi,

Can someone please help to interpret these instructions?

BACK AND FRONT:
start from one leg. With larger needles use pink cast on 26(30/32) sts and work in striped g st inc each side every 6 and 4 alt rows 1 st 8 times (every side every 6 and 4 alt rows 1 st 8 times - every 6 rows 1 st 5 times, every 8 rows 1 st 3 times) 42(46/4 sts on needle.

How do I easily break this down so it makes sense?

Thank you for helping!

 Why can patterns just say what they want?

For the first size, I’d increase on rows 6, 10, 16, 20, 26, 30, 36, 40. I THINK this is what they mean.

Thanks Ingrid for answering!

Increasing in each of those eight rows gives me an increase of eight stitches right? But I need to get to 42 stitches so I’m still not getting it??
:frowning:

There are 8 rows where you are increasing, but you’re increasing at each end, so it’s 2 per row=16 stitches increased.

Oh gosh, of course! Thanks so much Ingrid–for your very speedy replies!!
