Pattern in cable

I have a hat patter in Malabrigo that I cannot figure out. I am having so much trouble. There are 52 stitches, first row is k6, p4, second row is k4, p6, 3rd is giving me difficulty. 4sts first cable, k2, p4. The question I need to ask is the 4 sts first cable, does this include the k2 or do I knit 2 after the 4sts first cable. The 5th row is like this also, k2, 4 back cable, p4, Do I knit 2 than do 4 cable and purl 4. I hope someone can help me.

This is my 6th time ripping out.

I’m assuming that you’re working this back and forth, and that the odd numbered rows are the right side.

Since your repeats are 10 stitches, I’m not sure where you get the 52 stitches, unless you knit the first and last for seaming. If that’s the case, work the cable on the first 4 stitches, k2, p4.

A 4-stitch cable uses 4 stitches, and any further directions, in this case the k2, would be in addition to the cable.
