Pattern help

Dear all,

I am new to knitting and am on my second project. The pattern I am working from is called Wendy 5683 DK, and the instructions that are stumping me are the following.

nb: I currently have 105 sts in my row, and I think the ‘129 sts’ mentioned at the end is how many I ought to end up with after making the appropriate increases mentioned below.

‘…Moss stitch 20 stitches, [inc once in each of next 3 sts, moss st 4 sts] 3 times, inc once in each of next 3 sts, moss st 17 sts, inc once in each of next 3 sts, [moss st 4 sts, inc once in each of next 3 sts] 3 times, moss st 20 sts. 129 sts.’

This is exactly as it is phrased on the pattern, and it seems really confusing to me, or am I just being silly?

Could I not just add to extra 24 stitches interspersed evenly throughout my next row, or must I increase in the exact way mentioned above if I want the next part of my pattern to work out?

Welcome!

You’re not being silly. Most patterns call for evenly spaced increases, so I would think that this particular pattern has a reason for being so specific about the increases. I’d follow the directions as written.

Work in the moss stitch for 20 stitches

kfb (knit into the front and back of the stitch) in the next 3 stitches and moss stitch 4 stitches–do this instruction 3 times

kfb in the next 3 stitches

most stitch 17 stitches

kfb in the next 3 stitches

moss stitch 4 stitches, kfb next 3 stitches–do this 3 times

moss stitch last 20 stitches

You should end up with 129 stitches

I this your pattern? The specific increase instructions could be setting up for the cables?

hi can any one help I am finding the decrease fr the fronts very confusing as trying to decrease for the arms and at the same time decrease the front slope.

Are you knitting the same pattern or a different one?
Sometimes it helps the make a diagram of the decreases for the neck and the armholes with the number of sts to decrease written on each line. You can check off the dec as you do them so that you can keep it all straight.

I am knitting the long sleeved cardigan from this pattern, I might just have to do that or I will end up wit odd sides. Thanks

Yes, it helps too if there aren’t complete directions for the second front. Sometimes you only get the “oomplete second front to match first, reversing the shaping”. For me, the drawing makes it all much simpler.
