I am currently finishing the neckline on the Rusted Roots weater http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rusted-root

The instructions say to pick up 98 stitches at neck and knit a K2,P1 rib. How is that possible? How is that possible when 98 does not divide by 3 evenly. I end up with 4 knits together (2 from the beginning of the round and 2 at the end). The sweater is knit in the round.

I cast on 98 stitches in the beginning of the pattern so I can’t pick up another stitch anywhere right?

Pick up 96 sts, 98 may be a typo. You don’t pick up every stitch in the cast on. Pick up one for one along the back of the neck and the front, but along the sleeve edges pick up 3 for every 4 stitches.
