Pattern Help

It may be that I’m sick, but I am stuck on this pattern. It’s for a cabled hat being knit in the round.

I had 96 stitches and I’m making decreases. The first row goes like this:
(P2, K2, K2tog, K6) repeat 8 times.

So that left me with 88 stitches, the next row was a (P2,K2, P1, K6) repeat 8 times so no decrease. I checked this row and everything was good and I ended up with 88 stitches still.

The next row says: (P2, K2, K2tog, K6) repeat 8 times. Twice now I’ve ended up with 81 stitches left instead of 80. 80 stitches are required to make the next row which is a (P2, K2, K6). I’ve gone over it twice and I did every stitch correct. I end up doing a P2, K2, at the end instead of the K6.

Any ideas?

The next dec row you’ve written is exactly the same as the first one which started with 96 sts. The 2nd dec row should probably be k5 instead of k6, because you’re incorporating one of the k sts with the single p st from the previous row when you k2tog.

Ok, so it’s not just me being feverish and weird. But the pattern calls for K6 in every decrease row up to row 11. Row 11 it changes to K2tog, K5. The K6 is where the cable goes. The whole thing can’t be wrong, can it?

Is there a link to the pattern? That could help us take a look at it. I just can’t fathom why the dec rows would read exactly the same for several rows when you’ve already got rid of sts.

I think there’s a mistake in row 3 (the second decrease row).
Row 1 (P2, K2, K2tog, K6) repeat 8 times (88sts)
Row 2 (P2,K2, P1, K6) repeat 8 times (88sts)
Row 3 (P2, K1, K2tog, K6) repeat 8 times (80sts)
Row 4 (P2, K2, K6) repeat 8 times (80sts)
You should be decreasing 8 sts each decrease row. The cable panel stays the same but the sts between the cables decrease.

I think there’s a mistake in row 3 (the second decrease row).
Row 3 (P2, K1, K2tog, K6) repeat 8 times (80sts)

I was think that, but it didn’t get past my brain…

I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to link to patterns. The pattern appears to be really popular so that’s why I figured it was just me. Surely someone else would have caught it?

Sure links are fine, or even a few rows of a pattern, we just don’t want you to post the entire thing.

And I did find a comment on the decs being off, so no, you’re not the only one. Here’s how they should be:
"Decrease row 1: (P2, K2, P2 tog, K6), repeat until end of row
Row 2: (P2, K2, P1, K6), repeat until end of row
Row 3: (P2 tog, K2, P1, K6), repeat until end of row
Row 4: (P1, K2, P1, K6), repeat until end of row
Row 5: (P1, K2 tog, P1, K6) repeat until end of row
Row 6: (P1, K1, P1, K6) repeat until end of row
Row 7: (P1, K1, P1, K6) repeat until end of row
Row 8: (P1, K1, P1, C6F) repeat until end of row
Row 9: (P1, K1, P1, K6)
Row 10: (P1, K1, P1, K2, K2 tog, K2)
Row 11: (P1, K1, P1, K5)
Row 12: (P1, K1, P1, K2, K2 tog)
Row 13: (P3 tog, K4)
Row 14: (P1, K1, K2 tog, K1)
Row 15: Even Row
Row 16: (P1, K1, K2tog)
Row 17: Even row
Row 18: (P1, Skpsso)”

Thank you so much! It’s going to be my new husband’s first knitted item by me so I really wanted it to come out properly.
