Hi
I am knitting a V-Necked Cable Tank Top and I think the pattern may be wrong.
I have knitted up to Shaping armholes and neck and have 64sts on the needle the pattern reads as follows; Cast off 5sts,patt 25, turn, leave rem 33sts on stitch holder. 26sts. Working on these 26sts only proceed as follows. What seems to be wrong is that 5+25+33=63 and I have 64sts which is correct, and then it says I should have 26sts to work with which would be right so should the patt read patt 26 instead of patt 25. ( all sizes when added up are 1st short ). Hope this makes sense, please help I have emailed Sirdar but they have yet to reply.
Thanks
You didn’t account for the 1 st still remaining on your RIGHT HAND NEEDLE after the BO5.
So, let’s lay it out:
- 64 st on needle
- BO5 (now, 1 st is left on right needle, 58 on left needle)
- on the same BO5 row, continue on to work an additional 25 st in pattern (26 st now on right needle, 33 remain on left needle)
- turn work, and continue with those 26 st up to shoulder
The math is right: 5 lost at the bind off + 26 on current working needle + 33 on holder = 64 st accounted for.
Your pattern is correct. You just forgot to count the remaining st on the right needle after the binding off of 5. It happens. I’m always making myself a diagram to get things straight. Good for you, for questioning yourself before launching forth! Sometimes patterns (!) do have errors, and more so today than ever before.
Thank you it has just clicked feel really stupid now.
A good knitter always questions herself. You’re a good knitter, very conscientious. Been there, done that. You won’t forget this lesson. If you’re like me, I get really stumped once, and then I got it for life. Then, I just wait for the next mystery!
Knitting is a life-long learning curve! We won’t get bored! :happydance:
