Hello, I’m a bit of a beginner when it comes to knitting, especially understanding patterns sometimes! I’m desperately trying to knit a sleeve for a baby cardigan using this pattern…
So, I originally understood it to mean that the first increase was on row 9, but that the rest were every 10th row after this and then every 12th after that. I did this and the sleeve was not the right length (too long). Does it mean increase every 9th and 10th row, like a round of 10 rows with 2 increases? And then up that to a round of 12 rows with 3 increases? Any help would be much appreciated before I jump in with both feet again and get it wrong
.
Thanks!
Hi, You were correct in your first interpretation, first increase on the 9th row, then every following 10th row x3 and finally every 12th row x3 until you reach the correct amount of sts for the size you are knitting. The overall length can then be adjusted to what you need. If you are reaching the overall length before completing all the increases you can reduce the rows worked between increases, say you worked the first increase on the 7th row, then every following 8th row x3, then every following 10th row x3. See what length you have and, if needed, work straight to reach the size you recquire. Just remember to do the same for the 2nd sleeve.
I’m puzzled because your pattern says you are using 2.75m needles (so I’m guessing a 3/4ply weight yarn !?!) using garter stitch, so every 2 rows makes 1 ridge which, in a lightweight yarn, doesn’t measure very much at all!!
Anyway, hoping this helps and good luck with your project.
Linda
Are you working 2 increases in each increase row, one at each end of the row?
