I’m knitting a V-neck cardigan and am a little confused with the instructions for the front of it.

Cast off 6 sts on the right as for back, and at the
same time for neck edge, decrease on left hand
side, 2 sts in from edge as follows:

M: 1 st twice every 2 rows, 1 st once every 4 rows,*
1 st once every 2 rows, 1 st once every 4 rows *,
decrease 8 times from * to *.

Does this mean decrease 1st on every second row, twice? Then 1st on the 4th?

Hope someone can help me because I can’t wrap my head around it!

*1 st once every 2 rows, 1 st once every 4 rows *,decrease 8 times from * to *.

You’re on the right track. Yes decrease 1 stitch every second row, twice then 1 stitch on the following 4th row.
Now, for the part between the asterisks, decrease 1 stitch on the following second row, one stitch on the following 4th and repeat this a total of 8 times.
Your pattern may then give a stitch count and you can check to make sure you’ve done the repeat between the asterisks enough times.
