Pattern help please

So I am trying to knit the front band and collar of a cardigan. I am quite confused by the pattern itself, I obviously did something very wrong cause it didn’t work lol.
Can anyone explain this please:

Continue in ribbing as set and shape with shortened rows turning rows as follows:
Next 2 rows: Rib 38, turn, rib to end
Next 2 rows: Rib 42, turn, rib to end
Next 2 rows: Rib 46, turn, rib to end
Next 2 rows: Rib 50, turn, rib to end
Next 2 rows: Rib 54, turn, rib to end
Continue in this way working 4 more sts on each turning row for a further 18 rows.

So here is what I did:
Ribbed 38, turned, ribbed to end 2 times
Ribbed 42, turned, ribbed to end 2 times
Ribbed 46, turned, ribbed to end 2 times
Ribbed 50, turned, ribbed to end 2 times
Ribbed 54, turned, ribbed to end 2 times.
Did 18 rows of adding 4 turning stitches each time. Ended up with a last row of rib 126, turn, rib to end.

Please tell me where I went wrong… this pattern is confusing me so much.
Thank you

Hi and welcome!
When you do short rows, working the rib, turning and ribbing to end counts as 2 rows. You don’t have to repeat each direction twice.
Next 2 rows: Rib 38, turn, rib to end (that counts as 2 rows)
Next 2 rows: Rib 42, turn, rib to end (that counts as 2 rows)
Next 2 rows: Rib 46, turn, rib to end (that counts as 2 rows)
etc.

Ohhhh lol, I didn’t know that. So when it says continue for 18 rows, it will be really like 9?

Thank you

It’s 18 rows if you count the knitting to the turn as one row and the knitting after the turn as row 2 or 9 rows if you count the two together as a single row. You’ve got it.

You have saved the day! Thank you very much
