Pattern help? please

Hi, I have been knitting for a few years now but have never encountered this problem. I don’t want to mess this up. So, I have never knit a scarf until this week. So, I finished it and the pattern calls for end bands which run the opposite of the already made scarf. I don’t know if this makes sense. I am so scared to even try I don’t know how to pick up and start knitting from the ends of the scarf to create the band. Can anyone try to explain what to do so that I will be able to do? I am going to type in the pattern part about the bands in case I stink at explaining it.

"END BANDS"
With MC and smaller needles, RS facing, pick up and knit 3 sts for every four rows along 1 short end of scarf. You must have anuneven number of stitches.

Thanks in advance for some lifesaver out there. This is a birthday gift. It is a scarf and hat set. The hat calls for the same thing (knitting along the rows). So, I appreciate the help. Brandy

It’s just picking up sts and there’s a video that explains the basics at the bottom of the Tips page.

Look at what Sue suggested to learn how to pick up stitches.

You must have made a scarf where you cast on a lot of stitches and then don’t do a terrible lot of rows type of scarf. Working with the right side facing you you will want to pick up a stitch in the first row on your right as you are holding it. Then pick up a stitch in the next row and the next row, that is the 3. Then skip a row and pick up one stitch at the end of each of the next 3 rows and skip again. Work 1, 2, 3 skip all the way across making sure you end up with an uneven number of stitches overall. You can squeeze in a stitch, or skip one if you need to to get that uneven number.

Thanks so much for your help. I am going to look at the video too! I appreciate your help soooo much. :muah: :muah:
