Pattern help....! Not sure what I'm doing wrong

Hello All! Help please! I’m a very new knitter and have what i thought was a pretty easy knitting pattern, but got confused by something early on. Pattern says: Cast on 37 stchs. done. Rows 1-6, K1 P1 across row. done. Row 7 and 8 K1, P1 for 5 stchs, p3 4x; k1 p1 for 5 stchs. done. Now here’s where I got confused: Row 9 (right side) K1, p1, k1, p2;k4, (p1, k1, p1 k5)x2; p1, k1, p1,k4…at this point i have ended the row, yet the pattern goes on - p2, k1,p1, k1…??? from what I’m looking at there are no more stitches to be made after K4 and I am ready to turn my needle arnd to begin row 10. Are those last stiches part of row 10? What have I don’e wrong? The pattern ends with Row 64, I don’t want to go much further without getting some clue here as to whether I’m just reading the pattern wrong or if its a mistake or what?!! :knitting: Any help, much appreciated!

Can you tell us what pattern you’re making and where you are in the pattern? Maybe someone has made it and can help. Also, are you writing down EXACTLY what the pattern says, punctuation and all? It looks like you are…

Welcome to Knitting Help!

Always include a name and link if possible to the pattern. It also helps to write it out more line by line so it’s easier to read.

Okay still have 37 stitches right?
Row 9 (RS): K1, p1, k1, p2, k4 (total 9 sts), (p1, k1, p1, k5)x2 (this is done over 16 sts so worked 25 total); p1, k1, p1, k4, p2, k1, p1, k1 (12 sts for a total of 37).

You didn’t accidentally work some extra stitches right?

First of all, thanks so very much for getting back so quickly, GJ! The pattern is for a simple dish cloth. I found it online, it was printable and easy so i went for it–not sure what site i got it from tho…and, I did write it as exactly as it is printed, in term of the stitches…

hi RoseFairy! Thanks for taking time out to go over this with me…for the life, I cldnt understand what was going on! YES I did work EXTRA stitches and I have now decreased back down to 37! The whole working extra stitches thing, is also confusing for me bcoz I’m not entirely sure HOW I’m doing that…but at least, with the help of this site, I know how to decrease them! Now that I’m back at the right #of stiches I’m going to give it another go…thanks again, for helping me focus!!
