Pattern help needed

I found a nice christmas stocking pattern for free at a Michael’s craft store but I’m a little confused on the pattern. the whole thing can be found at http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=25355c
The part i have a question on is this:

Establish Pattern
Rnd 1 (Foundation Rnd): Work Rnd 1 of Irish Moss St across first 5 sts, p2, Tw2R, work Rnd 1 of Cable panel, Tw2R, p2, work Irish Moss St across next 11 sts, rep from * to * once, end working Irish Moss St across last 6 sts.
Rnd 2: Work Rnd 2 of Irish Moss St across first 5 sts, p2, k2, work Rnd 2 of Cable panel, k2, p2, work Irish Moss St across next 11 sts, rep from * to * once, end working Irish Moss St across last 6 sts.
Continue in pattern established, repeating Rnds 1 – 4 of Irish Moss st and Rnds 1 – 8 of Cable panel until piece measures 8-inches from beginning of pattern, end Rnd 4 of Cable panel

Circular Irish Moss Stitch (multiple of 2 sts + 1)
Rnds 1 and 2: *K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Rnds 3 and 4: *P1, k1; rep from * to last st, p1.
Rep Rnds 1 – 4 for Irish Moss st.

    Cable (Panel of 31 sts)

Also see Chart.
Rnds 1 and 2: P2, k27, p2.
Rnd 3: P2, k3, [C6F] 4 times, p2.
Rnds 4 – 6: Rep Rnd 1.
Rnd 7: P2, [C6B] 4 times, k3, p2.
Rnd 8: Rep Rnd 1.
Rep Rnds 1 – 8 for Cable panel

the rounds one and two in the first paragraph are different stiches before the cable pattern, so do i just kinda do an even odd thing before the cable patterns in the following rows? I guess i’m confused as to what to do. Thanks!

Okay, every time i do a pattern i do a testing.
I make a separate one and then if its right i do it on the final one,
though it seems right
Its also a beautiful pattern and design
Pm me a picture

-thank me if I helped

Yes, you don’t want to do the twist on every row, so they have you just k and p on the next one.

there is a picture on the link i posted in my question but its kinda small. so rows 3-8 of the cable pattern i just do the seed stitch before the cable pattern?

It looks like you work the Irish Moss stitch on the stitches before and after the cable rows.

rows 1

5 Moss, *p2, Tw2R, row 1 of cable pattern, p2 Tw2R, *, 11 Moss, to, 6 Moss

row 2

5 moss, p2, k2, work Rnd 2 of Cable panel, k2, p2, 11 Moss, rep from * to * once, end 6 moss

row 3

5 moss, P2, k3, [C6F] 4 times, p2. 11 moss, rep * *once, end 6 moss

row 4 - 6 repeat rows 1

row 7

5 moss, P2, [C6B] 4 times, k3, p2.* 11 moss, rep * * once, end 6 moss

row 8 repeat row1

Make sense?

i think i was getting confused because rows one has the Tw2R in it and i don’t know where to do that again, is it just that once and then i only do the cable and moss stich the rest of the length the the sock? Or do i do the rounds one and two as they are written out under the establish pattern part, rawr.

Looking at the picture, it appears that it goes all the way up, so I’d repeat rows 1 and 2 for those stitches, twisting every other row.

ok so basically do row one for all the odd rows and row 2 for all the even rows. ok that seems to make sense. Some day I’ll get better at this whole pattern reading thing!

ok so here another problem, i get 100 stiches when i do the math on that first round, i only am supposed to have 94… I’m starting to think i should find another patter! ><

You probably accidentally did some YOs when switching from knit to purl.

The math adds up to 94, so I suspect that suzeeq is right (as usual).

i havent even attempted to knit the round yet, I took it to my local knitting store and she got 100 as well. I was counting the number of stiches particularly in the Foundation row… guess i’ll go look at it again

… Okay, the weird thing is that … the web page has two stocking designs, with different cable patterns. Both stockings seem to start the pattern design when you have 94 stitches on the needle, and both of them have the same instructions (“Work Rnd 1 of Irish Moss St across first 5 sts, p2, Tw2R, work Rnd 1 of Cable panel, Tw2R, p2, work Irish Moss St across next 11 sts, rep from * to * once, end working Irish Moss St across last 6 sts.”), but the first (bone) stocking has a 28-stitch cable pattern, whereas the second (red) has a 31-stitch cable pattern.

Which is how you’re getting 100 stitches, I think; three extra stitches in the cable pattern, done twice.

well I looked at that too and we kind of wondering if thats where it was coming from. I’m doing the Red Stocking by the way and that is the one with the 31 stitch cable pattern. So on rows 3 and 7 would you just cut out those three knit stiches?

Looking at it again (I’d been looking at the bone pattern), you do end up with 100.

5moss/k2p2/31/p2k2/11/k2p2/31/p2k2/6 gives you 100

5moss/31 cable/11moss/31 cable/6 moss only gives you 84

5moss/k2/31/k2/11/k2/31/k2/6 gives you 92

What you could do, is add 2 more moss stitch to each 11 stitch section–start with 6, work 13 between the panels and end with 7
And that will give you 100.

Sorry if I added to the confusion.:??

You can’t cut out the 3 knit because you need them for the cable pattern. In one section the come before the cable2, and in the other they come after the cables.

And of course the website doesn’t give you anywhere to ask a question, so could i just cut out six stiches of the 11 stich run of moss stitch to end up at 94? so it would be 5, 5, and 6? or even 5,6 and 5. Or i could just through in some more increase stiches in teh previous row to get up to 100

Either way would work–it’s really your call.

Ok I hate to rez this thread again but hopefully this will be an easy on I’ve finished the cuff part of this stocking and am no on the heel, the pattern says:
Heel Flap
Slip last 10 sts of last rnd onto same needle with first 9 sts of next rnd – 19 sts.
Using two double pointed needles, work in rows as follows:
Row 1 (WS): Slip 1, purl to end.
Row 2: Slip 1, purl to end.
Rep Rows 1 and 2until heel measures 1¾-inches, end with a RS row

slipping those 19 stitches onto my double pointed puts my yarn right in the middle. So do I finish the row or just start in the middle.
Thanks again, its actually looking pretty good!

I’d work across the stitches and then start the next row.
