Pattern help intarsia

Hi, I am knitting a dress for a toy and attach a photo of what I’m stuck on. When changing colour, from knit to purl (and purl to knit) I don’t know how to carry the different colour yarn from front to back (or back to front) to avoid a hole forming. I know how to do it when knitting or purling the whole row. Thank you.

Row 7 is where I am at :+1:

With the old yarn in the back, bring the old yarn over the new. Then either knit with the new yarn or bring it to the front to purl.
The idea is the have both yarns in the back (even if you have been purling), cross them and then move the new yarn to the front if you need to purl. Or is this not what you were asking about?

Thank you, that’s great. Because I was introducing the new yarn from scratch, on the purl row, I couldn’t work out where and how to position the tail. Sorry I posted twice, I had trouble getting onto the forum last night, I tried also to post a photo.

Hello again, could you help with this part please. I have attached photo. I am stuck on ‘knit 1st stitch on LH needle with 1st stitch on cable needle together. It is twisting and untidy

I’m not sure if it’s supposed to twist. I’m finding it so fiddly. Thank you

This step is going to form a pleat or overlap. Stitch 1 will be knit with stitch 4, 2 with 5 and 3 with 6. It may look a bit twisted a first but it will not seem so messy as you continue.
