Pattern help--circular needle

Hi there! I’m fairly new to knitting and need some advice about this pattern.

My pattern calls for the use of a Size 8 circular knitting needle, 12". The beginning of the instructions say: “Cast on 30 Sts. Join taking care not to twist sts on needle.”

If I am only using one needle, then what am I “joining”?–Does this mean to move half the stitches onto the other side of the same circular needle?

Thanks in advance for all and any help!

Spread the stitches out so they reach from one needle to the other.
Put your two needles, pointed end up. Make sure your stitches arent twisted.
These are the two ends you join  The end on one needle, to the end on the other and now you are knitting in the round.

Hope that helps!
Kath
