I found this pattern for fingerless mittens. I am a self taught knitter so the instructions are confusing me. These are the instructions I don’t understand:

Cont in St st (k every rnd) and work as foll: k 2rnds
Next rnd k1, place marker, M1L, k2, M1R, place marker, k to end of rnd. Knit 1 rnd.

I think it means knit for 2 rounds for the first part. But the second I’m just lost. Any help/translation would be greatly appreciated. THANKS in advance!

For clarification the directions are…
Row/Rnd 1: Knit
Row/Rnd 2: Knit
Row/Rnd 3: K1, place marker, M1L, k2, M1R, place marker, k to end
Row/Rnd 4: Knit

Row 3 is simply marking/starting the base of the thumb (gusset), from where the thumb will appear/grow.
