Pattern for scarf using double knitting?

I’d like to try double knitting & I think it’d make a great warm scarf for a man with the neat stockinette stitch and some kind of manly(!) design. I’d also like to experiment with making my own design & charting it - but I’d really prefer to have an example pattern for a scarf in double knitting to get me started in the right direction.

I can’t find much online - does anyone know where I could find one? Free or paid is fine so long as I can download it from the net.

Thanks!

Have you seen Amy’s video for double-knitting? About halfway down on this page

Also, Ingrid just posted a link to a knitting graph/charting site in the Gen forum…

All you have to do is carry two colors…knit with one, alternately purl wtih the other, and switch k&p colors to create your pattern…Ive made a hat this way, so I haven’t had to deal with edges. If I remember correctly, I think you have to twist the yarns.

Thanks - yes, it was Amy’s video that gave me the notion to try double knitting (so it’ll be all her fault when it goes totally wrong!)

I think I’m OK on charting too - surely my engineering degree must help there! But I’m just chicken to start my own pattern without seeing another scarf done that way - I guess maybe I should just cast on (I saw someone else recommended a webpage to explain that) and get knitting even if it does feel a bit like setting off across Antartica without a map  But I’m ascairt

Maybe make a heart potholder before committing to a whole scarf?

Well sheesh - that’d be way too sensible for me. Next you’ll be suggesting I knit a swatch :roflhard:

I would NEVER suggest such a thing!! :roflhard:

Phew! For a moment then I thought maybe I’d wandered into entirely the wrong forum :roflhard:
