Hello, I am having trouble understanding knitting directions. Here they are:
Continue in double-moss stitch until piece measure 53cm. (I understand this).
Cast off the middle 24 stitches for the neckline (I also understand this), then 2-1-1 sts to shape the neckline.
Thank you for your time and for any suggestions you have.
Welcome to the forum!
It’s probably directions to cast off at each neckline edge, 2sts once, then decrease 1stitch and again on the next row, one stitch. Often these decreases are every right side (RS) row but I don’t see any indication of that.
What is the name of your pattern?
Thank you for the reply. To clarify what you have written, do you mean that I could cast-off 2sts at the neckline in the first row, then cast-off 1 stitch in the next, and then and then again in the following row to complete the 2-2-1 process that shapes the neckline? I am knitting a short-sleeve in double-moss stitch, and it includes a bit of crocheting around the edges of the T-shirt. Cheers, mdavies.
It’s 1-1-2 or 2-2-1? If it’s 2-2-1 that implies every other row.
Unless there are directions otherwise, cast off or decrease at the neck edge on every row. Since you can really only cast off at the beginning of the row, you can work a k2tog or ssk for the decreases of one stitch.
Does the pattern have a name and designer or source?
Thank you for your replies- I checked other patterns in the magazine I am copying from and I believe that a typo occured- the designer forgot to add the words “cast-off 2-1-1 every row” in the 2-1-1 statement, to shape the neckline.
