Pattern decreasing

Hi all :)…I’m making a baby’s cardigan but am stuck!! My pattern is made of 2 rows, the first being a knit row, the second being *p2, k1 repeat from * to last 2 stitches, p2.

The piece is asking me to decrease 1 stitch at both ends of the next and every alternate row until 17 stitches remain, I currently have 37 stitches. Can anybody help??!! Thanks in advance

Welcome and Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m not exactly sure where you’re stuck but here goes:
The easiest thing to do is to decrease one stitch in from the edge on each side. You could knit one stitch, ssk, work to 3sts before the end, k2tog, knit one. (There are videos for these decreases if you need them on the Glossary link at the top of the page.) The edge stitch and the decreases won’t be in pattern but they will give you an edge for seaming and nice lines of decreases near the edges. Make sure that when you work the sts between the decreases, you follow the pattern of sts in the rows you’ve already knit. Looking one or two rows below is the best way to see where you are in the pattern.
If that doesn’t help, just come back with questions. A pattern link is always helpful too.
