Pattern decreasing question

If I’m reading my sweater patter correctly, I believe I’m supposed to do armhole shaping by decreasing on purl rows. Can this be right?

I’m knitting in stockinette and this is what it says, with the first row being knit:

“Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at beg and end of every other row twice.”

So I bound off 3 knit stitches, then 3 purl stitches on the next row. It seems to me that I would then K 1 row, P the next row with dec’s, k 1 row, P with dec’s again.

Am I wrong?

That seems to be the way it reads; or you could read it as every other row from the first bind off.

It really doesn’t make a difference, though. You can dec on the purl side, or if you’d rather do it on the knit, you can do that instead.
