Pattern Confusion

How do you read the second line of this pattern? (I’m in the shaping portion of knitting a baby hat.)

 1. K11 8 times, k2tog

 2. Purl

For the Purl row, do I purl each individual loop on my needle, or reach down and purl together the two loops that were previously knitted together in the last row?

I think I know the answer to this, but that means I’m going to have to go back and take off about 2 or 3 rows. Any tips on how to do that too??

Thanks in advance-
Mary Jo

When you do a k2tog, you’ve made 2 sts into 1; the 2 individual sts don’t exist anymore, just the one on the needle. So only purl 1 st. You only work the sts on the needle unless otherwise told to.
To undo a row, just insert your left needle in the st below the one on your right needle and pull the right needle and the yarn out. Just do it slow and you won’t drop a st. Even if you do, you can still put it back on the needle; it won’t go anywhere unless you pull on your work.

Thank you. I understand your response, but when I turn the needle to do the purl row, it still looks like the two I knitted together are separate on the needle. They aren’t touching. I’m pretty sure I’m doing it right. I don’t think I could mess up knitting two together… Anyway, that’s the way I did it and I somehow came up with a wrong number of stitches left. I’m so frustrated b/c I’ve worked so hard on this hat and I’d hate to mess it up when I’m almost done… :frowning:

Maybe you didn’t let them both drop off the needle when you knit them together?

Ok, I’ve re-read your responses and viewed the decreasing video and I think part of my problem was…I was knitting late at night with the TV on and got all confused. So thank you again for your help. I’m going to try to remove a few rows and try again.
