I’m making the Rayski hat from Jane Ellison’s Noro Family book and the pattern says to
" *[k1, p1, k1] all into next st, p3tog, rep from *"
Does this mean to k1, p1, k1 then p3tog or to somehow k1, p1, k1 onto one stitch? Please keep in mind this is only my third project. Maybe there is another pattern that is easier and looks similar?
Thanks for your help!
The k p k into one st is like kfb though you don’t have to use the back leg. Knit into the st, leave it on the needle, bring yarn to front and purl into it, then move yarn back and knit again. You can do the k p k as k yo k, it will look the same and may be a little easier to do. You’re done with that stitch and on the next 3 sts you p3tog. This is called the Bramble, Trinity or Berry stitch pattern.
Hard pattern to find… It appears to be a slouchy, bobbled hat.

I think they are two separate instructions. you create the bobble then do the p3tog.
Ok, thanks for helping me figure that out. Makes WAY more sense than the mess I was making. I’ll post a pic when I finish.
Thanks again!

your pattern has many names. Raspberry stitch, blackberry stitch, popcorn stitch, trinity stitch.
you can check those all out on youtube, for example. Here is a video how to do it:
It is a really fun stitch to make but you have to get used to it first. One of the projects on my list will make me do this one over and over again soon.
