Pattern calls for ribbing, in need of help please

Hi all
After your expertise if anyone can help im knitting King Cole 4928, girls poncho.

The pattern consists of a 2x2 rib which I am ok with but the next line is confusing

Pattern 13 (in this case a purl stitch), rib 14 (¥), rib 2 tog (rib 1, rib2tog) 40 times (₩)

So my questions are

¥ the rib pattern is k2,p2 so is this essentially 14 times 4 stitches (the k2, p2 being 1 rib each) ? Or 14 times 2?

₩ rib 2 tog (rib 1, rib 2 tog) 40 times - following the k2,p2 pattern would I knit 1 then k2 together or k2 then p2tog so I would purl the next set in the ribs 40 times?

Hooe this makes sense. Much appreciated. Thankyou

These are often confusing. The pattern means work across 14sts (that is, 14 loops over the needle) in 2x2 rib. Don’t count the pairs of sts or the k2p2 repeat. Just count each stitch.

For the decrease repeat, work them as you come to them. If you start the “rib 24” with k2 then you’ll end with p2 (again counting each stitch as one of the 24). The next 2 sts will be knits so k2tog. The next stitch will be a purl 1 and then you will work the next p1 and the following k1 either as a k2tog or p2tog (probably a p2tog will look better) but that’s your choice.

You’re going to be changing the stitch pattern after this decrease row so it won’t matter that the rib pattern is broken up.

Oh my goodness thankyou so much. I was so confused. And thankyou for saying not to worry about the ribbing as the pattern I’m following at the start of the line has been p13 and then this line is only p11 so I was worried it would ruin my ribbing but if that’s the case I can stop worrying. Thankyou a million times
