I’m fairly new to knitting and recently bought the book ‘Knit step by step’ by Vikki Haffenden & Frederica Patmore.
There is a pattern for a newborn baby cardigan. I was wondering if anyone had this book and knew how to adapt it to a 12-18 month one?
Many thanks
Hi and welcome to KH!
For many patterns you can use larger needles and a heavier weight yarn to make a larger size. Going from newborn to 12-18 months is quite a bit bigger however. You can always add on extra sts, depending on your gauge to widen the pattern and adjust for the length that you need but it might be easier, especially if you’re rather new to knitting, to find a similar pattern which is made for the larger size.
Sometimes making a pattern bigger is as easy as just using a bigger needle and/or heavier weight yarn. Also I tend to find that most of the baby sweaters I’ve made end up bigger anyway.
