Patten Help Needed!

I’m knitting a sock monkey and I’m stuck on how to do the rotund backside of the monkey.

The first row that I’m stuck on is this and the red part is what I don’t know how to do:
k16, sl wrapped st over (to the private side) of next st and k2tog, s|L, turn

It continues on:
p16, sl wrapped st over (to the private side) of next st and k2tog, s|L, turn
k17, sl wrapped st over (to the private side) of next st and k2tog, s|L, turn
p18, sl wrapped st over (to the private side) of next st and k2tog, s|L, turn
etc.

Can someone explain the sl wrapped st over (to the private side) of next st part, please?
Thanks!

Not having the full pattern or link…

I assume you have done some short rows before this and have “wraps” around stitches from your short rows. That is what they are referring to. You need to undo the wraps and knit them together with the next stitch.

As far as “the private side,” I think this is a joke regarding the anatomy on which you are working.

Hee. . . I don’t think it’s anatomical.

The directions are to lift the wrap onto the needle and work it together with the stitch it was around. I really have no clue what the private side of a stitch is.

I’ve heard the term private side for the wrong side of a garment, but a stitch?:??

When I pick up a wrap, I slip the stitch to the right point and then lift the wrap with the left tip and put it on the needle and slide them both back. I suspect the ‘private side’ thing is keeping the wrap either before or after the stitch itself, whichever is less visible.
