patt 5 questions

Hi
On the instructions it said
Row 8: p5, (p5, p2tog, p4) 8time, p10sts
“ Rows 1to 3. Patt 5, knit to last 5sts, patt 5”
I want to know what does patt 5 mean.
Really thanks.

Welcome to the forum!
“Patt 5” means to work across those 5sts in whatever pattern stitch you have been using. Maybe it rib or seed stitch or something else.
What is the name of your pattern and designer?

I am working on the ponchos 9884 from style craft, and does patt 5 means to repeat the previous row pattern (p5, p2tog, p4) for 5 times? I’m still confused

Maybe this one?
The pattern stitch or pattern rows are possibly the knit in stockinette for a few rows then purl a row or knit that row on the wrong side. That’s the “patt 5” that the instructions want you to continue. So look at the pattern you’ve been working on the previous rows and determine whether you should knit those 5sts or there should be a row of bumps or purl sts.
It’s not a direction to repeat the earlier row 5 times. The patt 5 refers to the 5sts at beginning and end of row.

"Rows 1to 3. Patt 5, knit to last 5sts, patt 5”
For these 3 rows, work in knit or purl for 5sts, knit to 5sts from the end, work in knit or purl for the remaining 5sts. Whether the 5sts on each end of the row are knit or purl depends on the pattern on the previous rows.

If this is still confusing, give us just the pattern stitch. It’ll be knit one row, purl one row, knit one row, knit one row or something similar. Don’t give us more than that due to designer copyright please.
