Patt 28 sts

Hi …! I am new at knitting and have been adventuring into the various patterns that I understand. I just came up one show stopper as I am trying to knit a basket weave mitten pattern. It all goes well until it says "keep the basket weave pattern correct, and starting on 5th row of pattern, patt 28 sts, M1, K2, M1, patt to end."
I understand everything other than the “patt 28”. Could someone explain that to me?
Thank you very much.
Monica

Welcome to KH!
Patt means to work sts in pattern already established. For these mittens continue with the basketweave patterns that you have been doing. You want to maintain the pattern so there’s no jog to one side as you increase sts.
