“Patt. 22”?

I’m knitting a king Cole Long cardigan pattern and so far it’s going decent for someone of such allow experience as myself. I got to row 20 and it says “20th row. Patt 22, p1, p2tog, (p4, p2tog) 9 times, p2. 71 sts.

It’s the bits in bold I don’t understand, I’ve attached a picture of that section in case more context is needed. There’s sections Later!

image|1200x900 in the pattern where it says Patt. And I don’t understand it. Could anybody please help me?

The bit that says Patt 22 means you work the first 22 sts in the pattern that you are already working, then you p1,p2tog, do the repeated bit 9 times and end the row p2 where you should have 71sts on your needles. Patt or pattern just means work in the pattern as set.
Hoping this helps,
Linda

So it has rows 1-6, then says repeat rows 1-6 for 13 more rows, then says for row 20 “Patt. 22”, so I wouldn’t just do the first 22 stitches of the 2nd row and continue with the rest of the row?

The photo you attached(apart from being upside down) doesn’t have these rows on it, it seems to be the part of the pattern that covers the neck shaping and raglans.
In rows 1-6 did the pattern define a series of stitches to follow in a particular order i.e 2k,2p or something else? If so, this is your pattern repeat. You work 13 more rows in pattern (repeating rows 1-6 twice then row1 again) and for row 20 (or pattern row 2 as you said), you work the first 22 sts in pattern as set for pattern row 2 then you continue the row with the rest of the instructions for row 20.
Hoping this helps :grinning:

Thank you very much, it explains some bits of the rest of the pattern.
