Patern Misunderstood!

I am knitting a ballet top from Debbie Bliss and I am totally lost on the left front…it goes like this:

  1. With 2 3/4 needles cast on 59 sts.
  2. K 5 rows
  3. change to 3 1/4 needles
  4. Next row K to end
  5. Next row k3, p to end
  6. Rep the last 2 rows twice more
  7. Inc row (right side) K3, m1, k to last 3 sts, m1, k3.
  8. Work 7 rows as set
9.Rep last 8 rows once more then the inc row again. 65 sts.

All is fine until no. 8 above. At that stage I have 61 sts. I go back and knit the 7 rows reversing the order of no. 4 and no. 5 above - to keep the continuity of the pattern. The increase row at no. 8 is now a purl row. I now have 63 sts.

So on to point 9. do I do another inc row - this time a knit row - if so I have 65 sts and by the time I have finished the 8 rows and the inc row again I have 69 sts!

I am doing something wrong - can anyone help me please!

It looks to me like you do the increase row 3 times - that brings you to 65 stitches.

The first time you do # 7, that brings your count to 61.

the next 7 rows you stitch count stays at 61.

THen for #9 - you repeat the increase row so now you have 63. Then you knit 7 rows keeping the stitch count 63.

Then repeat the inc row again - now you have 65.
