Ihave had no success for nearly a year now to knit a design requiring Lock setting Back N___

Wool becomes “wild” with out any tensions at the needle level … from first row of pattern it all goes hay wire … I check settings according to pattern … and they all seem correct … can I be missing a step ???

Is this in reference to a knitting machine? Most knitters in the forum are hand knitters. A few may use machines, but be patient waiting for answers.
