Parenthesis () Cast On Help

It goes like this:

Sweater sizes: The Cove cardigan is designed with a positive ease of
approx. 4-6 inches. Circumference is measured with sweater buttoned at
chest.
2/3 (sweater 26.5 inch chest circumference)
4/5 (sweater 28 inch chest circumference)
6/7 (sweater 29.5 inch chest circumference)
8/9 (sweater 31 inch chest circumference)
10/11 (sweater 32.5 inch chest circumference)

Starting with the U.S. 8 (32” circular needle), cast on as follows:
Cast on: 17 (17, 18, 18, 19) place marker
Cast on: 10 (10, 10, 10, 10) place marker
Cast on: 22 (24, 24, 26, 26) place maker
Cast on: 10 (10, 10, 10, 10) place a maker
Cast on: 5 (5, 6, 6, 7)
(64, 66, 68, 70, 72 sts)

This pattern is for a child’s cardigan. My project is intended for a 4/5 sweater. My problem is that I don’t know where to place the markers. I think the number of stitches I should cast on is 66 but I don’t know what to make of the marker placement instructions. Any help is appreciated!

Follow the second set of numbers in each direction.
Starting with the U.S. 8 (32” circular needle), cast on as follows:
Cast on: 17, place marker
Cast on: 10, place marker
Cast on: 24, place maker
Cast on: 10, place a maker
Cast on: 5,
(66 sts)

It might be easier to cast on 66 sts and then go back, count sts and place the markers if you have markers that open and close like safety pins.

What is the name of your pattern?
