p2ss0

I’ve tried several things and nothing is working…
Could some explain to me exactly how to do this?
1st row: (RS). K2. *yo. Sl1. K2. P2sso. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: Purl.

It’s from this pattern and this is what it should look like:

Hi and welcome!

Hmm… I thought P2sso was pass two slipped stitches over. But you don’t have 2 slipped stitches so I’m not sure. Too bad they don’t have instructions for special stitches in the pattern.

@salmonmac do you understand this?

Yes, pass 2 slip sts over is my understanding as well.
Since there’s a single yarn over which increases the stitch count by one, try passing one slip stitch over which will decrease one and balance the stitch count.

It must mean pass the slip stitch over the 2 knit stitches.

Yes, I’m thinking it’s just terminology is off here… So it says this -

and you must do this -
1st row: (RS) K2, YO, Slip 1, K2, Pass slip stitch over K2 Repeat between * to last K1.
2nd row: Purl

There shouldn’t be a decrease in pattern this way.

It leaves a hole in the work this way as it makes for a lace look which isn’t what the place mat looks like at all

It is sorta lacy looking in the picture to me. If your holes are bigger try using the tips of the needles and don’t stretch it out. I don’t know what yarn you’re using, but often after washing it’ll tighten up, too.
