I just wanted to say thank you for all the support I got from you guys the other day when I was in a panic about my hospital appointment.
The appointment was yesterday and the MRI has confirmed only one :cheering: herniated disc, but its a big one, its out too far and its sitting very close to the root nerve.
As for treatment, I’ve been referred yet again to another person, a spinal surgeon this time (I wrongly assumed that my orthopedic surgeon was able to treat me), I have a 4 weekly standing appointment withe orthopedic guy until then and strict instructions to go to a&e any time of day or night if any of a long list of symptoms occur.
They can’t give me any more pain relief at the moment, because the opiates I’m on now are causing side effects so anything stronger would make me worse and the nerve medication they can offer would only help the leg pain, not the weakness, and it wouldn’t help the back pain at all so we decided against that.
I was offered Valium, to get me through the nights and let me sleep a while, but I’m concerned about the addictive properties of it so I’ve refused that for now, but if I need it it’s only a phonecall away.
Also, after all your advise I’ve been googling and researching the treatment options, and maybe the injection won’t be so bad after all. Depending on which surgery I’d be offered, some of the after effects are undesirable for me at my age.
I am looking into hypnotherapy now to overcome my fear of needles!
