OT: Runners?

I’m an on-off runner. I’ve done two 10km races and a 5km. This year, I’m doing my third 10km race with my new boyfriend. Today I ran 4km. Yesterday I ran but didn’t track distance, approx 25 mins.

Anyone else here run?

I’m a runner! I’ve been running for 6 years now. Right now I have a knee injury, so I haven’t ran since Friday, but I hope to start up again in a few weeks! (Knitting has taken the place of running while I rest up.)

I’ve run a lot of 5K’s, a couple of 10K’s, 8K’s, a 5 miler, a 10 miler, a half-marathon, and one marathon. After I get over this knee injury, I’m going to start training for my next marathon.

Before the injury, I was working on getting my mile time down. I’ve knocked off a good 30 seconds!

I was a runner in high school and college. No marathon dreams here, my body is designed for middle distances - mainly did 5K and 10K’s. I trained with a couple of friends who were running the Marine Corps Marathon in DC and the most I could ever do was 12miles. I transitioned away from running to hiking, biking and ellipticalling (is that a word) about 5yrs ago b/c I was spending too many of my running days with knee and back pain.

I had to bite the bullet and get a GPS watch…trying to.plan.every.single.run on mapmyrun etc was becoming un-fun.

I run every day (or try to.)

I’ve never been a runner, but, recently and at nearly 50 years of age, I decided to give it a go.

I couldn’t run the distance of half a block when I started. But I kept pushing myself until I could run the block, then two, then three, etc. At first, my lungs felt like they would explode! And my knees felt like the tendons were shredded. My back took quite a pounding. I feared I was doing more harm than good! Yet, my body did get stronger, and began to adapt to the new routine. And I want to just keep running!

I don’t know that I will ever run even a mile, or anywhere near a 5k or half-marathon. I will keep running, and just see where it leads. It’s been an interesting experience! (I was inspired by the Biggest Loser contestants who run whole marathons! If they can do that, what’s my excuse?!) :yay:

I bought a GPS watch to better track my distances, guesstimating/trying to do it with software was driving me nuts.
