So I am wondering how many of us are teachers/educators? If you aren’t in teaching, please answer anyway, and choose “other” so we can see what percentage of us are in education. Thanks!
OT - Poll: How many of us are educators?
I’m a SAHM. So I guess one could argue I am in the ‘Educator: Other’ category…LOL (I selected not in education)
I think you qualify on principal! Home schoolers would also qualify as in education.
I put educator: other, because as a minister a large part of my work responsibility is education. I primarily teach classes for adults, incl. special classes for older adults and college students, but occasionally I teach children and teenagers as well.
I’ve been a TA in regular elementary and self-contained special ed elementary, and for the past 7 years in an alternative HS program for students with emotional, psychiatric and behavioral problems who can’t function in the regular high school setting.
My favorite was in the self-contained elementary, but they mainstreamed all the kids and made it a pull-out program.
How timely! I was wondering about this just this morning when I saw Ingrid mentioned “school”. :study:
I’m a student!
I put “not in education” though teaching, either at the high school or university level is a possibility once I get down with my absurd amount of schooling.
I know there are a lot more of us teachers. I can think of four off the top of my head and several home schoolers. Where is everyone?
I’m an elementary special ed. teacher, 15 years
I said not in ed, however, I could make several arguments that I am/have been. First, I’m a parent, and I think that should be an automatic qualifier. (If not, how good a parent would I be?) I have done all sorts of child/special needs care in the past, also.
I put in “preschool educator”. I am not a qualified teacher as such. However I belong to a Playcentre which is a parent run co-operative pre-school. At our centre we do not have paid supervisors so all parents/caregivers who attend with their children have to do a minimum of training and people are expected to continue training throughout their time at Playcentre.
I’ve been teaching preschool for the past 5 years. Most days I love it and other days…
I teach at a university (English/Literature), so yep, I’m definitely an educator!
I’m a grad student working on my EdD which is educational leadership. My focus is education of adults. My specialty area is Women’s Studies. Next term I am teaching a class called Sex, Power and Consumption. I have to go finish my syllabus
Well, I think that Carmen means in the actual teaching community now. No one disputes that parents are teachers.
Therefore I put not in education.
Ooooh, that sounds like a fascinating course, FM!!
I am an administrator at a college, but not a professor!
Hopefully I will be a teacher in 2 1/2 years!! Working towards my BS in bio and Masters in education so I can teach high school biology! I can’t wait!
I put Other because I’m homeschooling DD Rach, she’s pre-K this year, but this fall I’ll start her in Kindy homeschool! :happydance:
I’m a home educator so I selected “other” as K-12 doesn’t truly describe what I do each day. Yes; I work with my K-12 children, but I also do special education, college level work, arts and crafts, driver’s ed, and self-education.
I do believe that most parents are educators. They are the ones that generally teach the abc’s, 123’s, tying shoes, social behaviour, beginning cooking, fine and gross motor skills. Unfortunately, I see so many parents that are waiting for their children to enter school so someone else can teach them these things. The short time that my kids did attend traditional schooling I was amazed at the number of children entering kindergarden who didn’t know how to hold a pencil or crayon!! How can a child get to 5 years old and not have experienced at least crayons??? (sigh)
