OT: OH MY GOD - I need a gift FAST!

In 9 days I’ll be going to France and staying with a host family.
Sounds nice, yeah?
Bet you’re a bit jealous, yeah?
It’s okay. I would be too.
So why am I freaking out like a paranoid schizo with ADD and no meds?
It’s considered polite to bring a gift for your host family.
I HAVE NO GIFT
SWEET FREAKING CHRIST! I’m going to be the unappreciative American!

Does ANYONE have any suggestions? I’ve already discarded scarves. Considering some of those short-row garter-stitch beanies I’ve made. Any ideas at ALL?!

AIDAN, THAT’S WONDERFUL!!! What a GREAT opportunity!

How about a matching dishcloths/kitchen towel set? That would be small and quick enough to knit on the plane on the way over, even!

Hats a fairly quick…especially skull caps and berets…

I agree with KK a nice kitchen towel cloth set would be easy, practical and appreciated.

Now here is another idea. I was an exchange student many years ago (we won’t talk about how long that was.) and have hosted exchange students here. And one of the gifts I have received nice coffee table books from the students home town (or nearest metro area) I love these gifts! My “girls” and I have had fun going through the book and listening to their stories that go with the pictures. I know it isn’t knitted but it is easy and inexpensive.

Yeah, that. I was going to suggest going out and spending some $$, too, but I like KK’s towel idea.

I think a coffee table book about your area would be a great ice breaker.

I’d like to see a coffee table book of the Boonies too

Ya know…I didnt even CONSIDER a non-knitted gift! :rofling:

I did.
But I was thinking crocheted. :rofling:

To be honest Aidan, when I saw your dilemma, the first thing I was thinking of was “what can he crochet for them?” Depending on your skills and speed in thread, a nice doily might be appreciated. A kitchen set is also a quick-to-crochet project. The patterns I’ve used the most are the five textured dishcloths from Pricilla’s site. I don’t have the link handy, but if you don’t have it, I can dig it up.

P.S. As a collector of postcards, I’d vote for the coffee table book too.

Nice thing about thread work, you can always just do it in yarn and get a bigger doily…that’s a fantastic idea.

I don’t have any ideas but I really like the ones listed above… just wanted to say Congrats to you on this wonderful opportunity and hope you have a wonderful time :cheering:
