OT- NY Times article on Aspartame Study

Thanks–that’s what I suspected, but I wasn’t sure. I didn’t think I was being pickled! :rofling:

Glad to help out!

BTW, Angelia, I was just reading on another thread that you are a literature professor - so cool! That’s just what I wanted to be when I grew up before I got sidetracked by med school. What flavors of literature are your interests?

I wanted to be a bio-chemist at one point…but the math! Dear gods, the math! :rofling: I still dream of a biology degree and just might get one. If nothing else, I’d at least get street cred with my students!

Medieval lit is my thing, though I have a soft spot for the Renaissance, as well (Shakespeare…Marlowe…yum! ). But really, any literature makes me pretty happy!

I used to think it would be so cool to be a doctor. Then I married a medical student!! It’s like the seventh circle of hell, quite frankly, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. (Ok, well, maybe my worst …) The sheer volume of reading is beyond belief, and I’m suprised anyone makes it through.

Plus, there are people who go through med school, like my DH, with FAMILIES. I know mothers with multiple kids who do it. Incredible.

I applaud anyone who can go to med school. And KNIT, no less!! :cheering:

Cheers,
Alison

Thankee, knittingdoula  It is cool to be a doctor, but it is stressful too. I started in a surgical residency after med school but it was too brutal for me. Plus it took away too much knitting time! So I left that residency and I’m doing research in embryology right now. I’ll be starting an internal medicine residency in June, which I’m very excited about. I’ll keep y’all posted.

And Angelia - medieval lit, that is wicked cool. I never got further than the Canterbury Tales - does that count?

That’s awesome! Do you have a blog? I’ve been long interested in what everyone’s day job is…maybe should start a poll…

Okay, I have to disagree with this. Eliminating carbs from your diet is BAD!

From what I learned, startches convert into sugar, which produces energy. You need that energy to burn, like running, walking, lifting, and other excersizes. You can have carbs, just as long as you eat them in moderation, and not blowing it out of porportion.

I could go on and on about how the whole cycle works, but I shall not

i think the point was that breathing will kill you so trying to cut out everything that can kill you is crazy. I believe it was irony.

I am kind of excited about formaldehyde…isn’t it a preservative? :rofling:

I tried the Diet Coke with Splenda…it doesn’t taste right. I agree it tastes too much like regular coke which is toooo sweet for me.

I havn’t tried that yet. I’ve tried a lot of diet sodas and my favorites are Diet Cherry Pepsi and Diet Cherry Vanilla Doctor Pepper. I like the flavors of them both

Simple carbs (refined sugars and all that) BAD. For me, within 30 minutes after a meal of simple carbs (like pancakes  ), I must sleep–I have no choice–and I feel like crap for a few hours afterwards.

Complex carbs (whole grain goodness!) well, GOOD! Even energy, happy tummy, virtuous feeling…fabulous! I loves my oatmeal!

I’m pretty excited about the preservatives, too. I figure if my body is exhumed 500 years from now, I’ll look EXACTLY as I did the day I was buried! Yay! Too bad they aren’t working on me right now…

Sugar is also a preservative. Think STRAWBERRY PRESERVES! Couldn’t have them without sugar.
