I feel your pain! I have endometriosis and migranes with my period as well. I am certainly no nature freak and have tried all of the drugs out there. I did finally quit BC pills and it by regulating my bowels. (not to be graphic!), the endo is better. Anyway, by taking 2500 mg of vitamin c and eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables - I seem to ‘go’ more often than I used to and the endo. pain is not as severe. It still hurts a good bit at ovulation but, using advil for a couple of days seems to help that.
For the headaches - which are my worst problem, I have just started accupunture. I have done it three times - right before my period begins. It has really helped! I have gotten a small headache but for only one day - instead of 5 or 6 and the pain was bearable. I also use Mucinex-D - it is new and my pharmicist told me to try it to open my head up. The combination seems to work.
Just another suggestion to tuck away - I hope your new BC works!!!
My ‘bowel’ problem was during my period (also not to be graphic!) Felt like I was passing a set of steak knives. Yowsa!! That hurt, but now I don’t have that anymore! Yea!! (Something tells me giving birth may be a cake walk :rofling: )
Accupuncture scares the crap out of me, no pun intended :rofling: , just the thought of those needles, no matter how small, would send me to the pass out chair. I’m such a baby.
But thanks for the Mucinex suggestion. I take sudafed for the sinus pain/pressure and it seems to help.
You gals know waaayyyy to much about my “lady” problems.
oooo sorry, I didn’t see that you asked me a Q until just now!
Head-on is this big chapstick-type thing that you rub on your forehead when you get a headache. I’m not sure what exactly it has in it (can i FIND it to tell you??? of course not). Anyway, there is a menthol-ish scent to it, but it just feels so cool and smooth. It doesn’t wook every time, but if i catch the hgeadache RIGHT when it starts, it works for me.
Hi have something like this - in the UK it is called ‘4head’ and I just happen to have the leaflet about it in my bag … the active ingredient is ‘levomenthol’. You rub it across your forehead and ‘it causes local skin sensations (such as cooling or tingling) at the site of application, followed by an analgesic (painkilling) effect.’
I’ve only just started trying this - I get headaches which I think are ‘mild’ migraines although sometimes I get to the point where I can’t move my head incase ‘my brain bumps into my skull’ ! You need to catch the headache at the beginning otherwise I didn’t think it worked. Fortunately I can just use normal strength ‘ibuprofen’ to get rid of my full-on headache though.
So sorry you’re having this trouble. I’ve had migraines for as long as I can remember. And terrible cramps. I can’t take BC pills anymore, too many side effects. DH is fixed so I really don’t need them anyway.
My Dr. prescribed me Immetrex. Works great, makes me sleepy though but once I wake up the headache it gone. I tried everything. I even tried Zoloft because it’s supposed to help with PMS, cramping, etc. that just made me feel like I was walking around in a fog. Quite taking those real quick.
I’ve tried Ortho-tri-cyclen, Mircette, and Lo-Estrin in the past with no help. Now I’m using the Nuvaring, and although I still get migraines every month, the convenience of the ring is so worth it. I just turn into an Excedrin and diet Mountain Dew junkie for a week a month. Not optimal.
Isn’t this funny on a knitting site. I have gotten migraines since my second pregnancy. I got them with each pg after that and then not for a long time. Now I get them periodically, but I can’t find a link to any particular part of my cycle. I think they are more sleep deprivation and food linked. I am going on a mostly vegetarian diet (ie no red meat or pork, not many cheeses, no non fermented dairy etc. I am also cutting out wheat and tomatoes because I know they are a problem.) What is left?? not much! I think it will help, though. I have never tried any perscription meds for it, but OTCs never seem to help much. A HOT HOT shower and dark room with lots of pillows are about my only help.
