OT: Kitty!

I am finally adopting a kitty! :woot: :woot:

I put my last kitty to sleep for renal failure about 4 years ago. I was so sad. My husband reminded me today that we went to the home show here in Savannah about a year later and I ran across this lovely organization called Coastal Pet Rescue. I actually started crying about my cat, looking at all the pets to be adopted. He had to drag me away.

My heart has finally mended and I have been looking for a while now. I have all the kitties memorized by site from Coastal Pet Rescue and from the HUmane Society. (Sad)

I finally got my husband on board and found a kitty I wanted at the same time!!! She is close to a year old and she is a very petite siamese mix with a few tabby markings and blue, blue eyes!!! :heart: The gal who has been fostering her is really sweet. We met her today and we will get her on Sunday. She is playful and affectionate and fun. She and my 4 year old daughter were chasing one another around the house and she had her little tail high in the air, ears perked straight up. Then my husband got out the laser pointer and kitty and DD were taking turns chasing it around. SO cute! Her name right now is Sophia and I’m not sure whether we will change it or not.

I am so excited!! I will post pics after we get her. :happydance:

Yay!! :yay::yay: I’m so happy you are healed and ready to love a new fuzzy baby!

(My kitty is 18.5 yrs old now and I know in the next few months I’m going to have to take her in… :help: )

Good for you!! I adopted all 3 of my kitties from the humane society, and they are wonderful companions. I recently lost my husband after 41 yrs. of marriage, and without my cats to care for I would be more of a basket case than what I am. Looking forward to seeing pictures.

Jan, I shiver to think of what you must go through. I still tear up thinking about my old baby. I was looking for the old carrier today and didn’t find it. I am almost happy I can’t find it as that tangible reminder would probaby make me cry again.

Catlvr, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband! Pets can really help heal us in times like those. I remember a good cry I had into my kitty’s sweet fur after I had a miscarriage.

I am anxious to post pics. Tomorrow is the big day!

[B]To anyone who thinks that their pet is getting ready to go[/B], I found this great tutorial perfect for remembering such a friend:Pet hair bracelet At first I thought it would be kind of weird, but they come out beautifully.I will certainly be making one for the cat I grew up with.He is getting older now so I will be bringing him to my place sometime and keeping him an indoor cat for his last years.My cousins just don’t have the time to pay closer attention to him and I’m the only one in the family who is both willing and without dogs; not to mention I really miss The Dude.

I’m sure he’ll get along perfectly with my kitten.I mean…the little guy cuddles with my snake and sleeps on top of his tank as it is.They had a nice symbiotic relationship going on until he got bigger: the snake made a nice bed and the kitten made a nice heat source,lol.

I got “Molly” my new kitty just before Thanksgiving. She is about 7 months old now. She is so lovey. We have been through a rough time, tho. She has been sick off and on since I got here, with a respiratory infection and her left eye constantly getting bright pink and teary. I have had her to the vet 4 times now, gone through a regiman of clavamox, dioxytin (sP?) this med was compounded for her and eye ointment. We were at the vets office yesterday for some more eye ointment. The vet says she thinks she may have herpes virus and that the business with her eye may something that continues all through her life. She has suggested I have her eye cultured- which would include several tests to rule other things out. I am going to have it done next month- have to save up the $150 for the test. Her vet bills have pretty much depleted my account so far.
I got her from a lady who is known as MaryPaws, found her on the internet- along with other animal rescue groups like Brother Wolf and Animal Compassion Network her in nc. My friend saw her somewhere last month with her kittens for adoption and she said several of them were sneezing.I called and wrote her a letter about everything this kitten has gone through since I adopted her, mainly because I wanted her to know so that if her other cats/kittens are going through the same thing. Her response to me was that I could use #7. of her contract and bring Molly back and exchange her. :!!!:
Needless to say I was very angry, she’s not a broken knitting needle, she is my baby who has stole my heart from day one when I brought her home and who totally has my heart and love throughout all of the suffering she has gone through.
Does anyone have a cat who has the herpes virus. I am still learning about it. Some of what I do know is that it can flare up from stress. I put warm compresses on her eyes and clean them prior to putting the antibiotic ointment in her eyes. I have also read that tea from natural tea used as a compress is good too because the tacturine(sp?) don’t have info in front of me is good for fighting bacteria.

You may want to start giving your kitty 1 drop daily of liquid l-lysine. It’ll help to boost her own immune system to aid in her fight against the herpes virus. Also, at the local health food/supplement place I visit the woman that works there told me that one of her customers have a cat that tested positive for feline aids. She started her kitty on elderberry extract, continued it daily, and 6 months later the kitty tested negative. (I don’t know how much elderberry a kitty should receive, but I’m sure you could find this sort of information on the net or a local health food place near you.)

I have been giving her lysine treats twice a day that I got from the vet. I didn’t know there was a liquid form- would they have that at the local health food store. I think I will call around tomorrow and see what they have. Thank you for the advice.

Rose, thank you so much for not thinking of your kitten as being disposable. MaryPaws sounds like a cold, cold woman.

Wish I had a good solution to your problem, but the culture is the best thing to do. Not only to tell you what it is, hopefully, but to rule out what it isn’t that is wrong with your fur baby.

WOW.Just WOW.These people know very well that if you went through the trouble to find them that you would not just “exchange” your new pet like an ill fitting t-shirt.Lady needs to change her #7 to “If after so and so days you realize that your pet has arrived to you in less than healthy condition, I will personally be responsible for all future vet bills until the day I die”.
