That’s how I rate their importance, but honestly, I didn’t have to compromise any of my standards at all with my honey. For instance, good housekeeping wasn’t one of the traits I was looking for in a husband, but I’ll be darned if he isn’t better at it than me. I still cook better, though!

You might also want to collect some demographic information to make your survey results more meaningful. For example, does the education level of the respondent impact their importance for their partner’s level of education? Do educated women rate education higher than educated men do? Do self-identified liberals/conservatives rate things differently? Do different age groups rate things differently? (For what it’s worth, I have a Ph.D. and I’m 36.) Part of my job is to write surveys, and though I’m not an expert and run my surveys by someone else for a second opinion, I’d bet these data points would help interpret your data.
