OT - Dog Surgery Update

Well, my baby Colorado needs to have a second surgery on Wednesday. It looks like he partially tore his patellar ligament on Friday during a fearfulness episode (that was probably the result of psychological trauma from surgery). Needless to say, I’m heartbroken for him. He has completely stopped bearing weight on his operated leg, which is what prompted us to take him back to the surgeon. His patella is not moving normally and the surgeon needs to open him up to take a look at what’s going on in there. There is a chance that it can’t be fixed, but surgeon said he was optimistic, even if he didn’t like this situation. Of course, I’m focusing on the negative and I wish I could change that.

I think I need some xanex (sp?) or something. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I can’t watch tv; pretty much the only thing I can do is knit…

At least you have knitting… and us

I am sorry to hear about your dog.
Its tough to watch the ones we love in pain.
But knittin’ sticks up now! Your dog WILL get well!!!

:frowning:  HUGS

I’m really sorry to hear about this.

I hope he gets better!!

Awww I’m so sorry! {{Hugs}}

Oh, honey!! I’m so sorry!! I so hope everything will be fine once again and very soon. I know how much I love my cat, and all the other pets I’ve ever had. I’ve never met a pet I didn’t like!!

Thanks everyone. We’re hanging in there. I really hope everything will go well on Wednesday and he will have no further complications. Our surgeon is excellent and I feel confident in his abilities. He is one of the gentlest, nicest persons I have ever met. The complication Colorado has is one that he’s only seen 2 other times, and he’s been practicing for 10 years. This is one of those times where I hate for him to be “special”.

One of the girls that worked at the front desk had a huge skein of baby yarn that she was using to show someone else how to cast on. Too bad I was too distraught to join in… LOL

  Our thoughts are with you sweety!

Praying that you BOTH make it thru this ordeal. Give Colorado a hug for all of us.

Oh no, that’s bad news. :frowning: Poor fella!

 Hugs  to you and Colorado!!

Today’s the day of the second surgery and I’m so scared. I’m really hoping and wishing and thinking all sorts of good thoughts that the surgeon can find the best way to repair Colorado’s ligament.

I’ll update as soon as I can.

superhugs

We’re pulling for you here in Cambridge, Steph. The Potato sends his love.

Sending you and Colorado hugs and positive thoughts from me and the crew- Karma, Bijou, BizKit, and Blue

Oh Stephanie, I’m so sorry about Colorado! I hope all went well with his surgery!!!

I hope that everything goes okay for both of you.

Well, we are back home from surgery and Colorado is sound asleep (sleeping off anestesia). He doesn’t seem like a happy camper at all, but then again, look at what he’s been through…

He had torn his patellar tendon cleanly off the bone. It is a really rare injury, but our surgeon did the best he could with the repair. His leg is now in a splint, which will remain on for 2 months, give or take a couple weeks. Quote from our surgeon a few minutes ago when he called to check on us “The surgery went the best it possibly could have.”

So, I’m not going to jinx anything, but we are hanging in there. I did have a minor breakdown, but DH is taking care of me and I know everything will be fine.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! They really mean a lot to me.

P.S. This surgeon and his staff have been so wonderful that I am going to have to knit some blankies for the doggies when they come out of recovery.

 Hugs

I’m glad the sugery went fine

Hi everyone,

I think everything is still going fine. I ended up taking Colorado back to the vet because I thought the bandage on his splint was too loose since his knee was moving a little bit, but they said it was fine and he’s right where he should be 2 days out of surgery, so that was a relief to hear!

I had a minor heart attack on the way to the vet’s when he bent his knee (or it looked like he bent his knee) through the splint. I was sure he had torn the surgical repair… LOL But the nurse told us that it should be fine and a little movement isn’t going to cause too much damage and they can’t totally immobilize the knee. Here’s hoping that the repair job is still holding strong and will totally heal!!!

So, while I can’t totally be at ease with the situation, I guess it is the best it can be given the circumstances. Now, why can’t I stop worrying?? I’m sipping at a beer, in the hopes that it will help me loosen up! (It’s not working…)

I also started my first pair of clogs for my dh (since he’s been so patient with me and Colorado through this whole ordeal), and I think they are one of the only things keeping me sane at this point! :XX: :XX: :XX:
