OT: Birkenstocks

Did I spell that right? :?? I ordered my first pair this weekend from QVC. (First time with that too) I got the basic Clogs. The price seemed pretty good. Considering I have no clue what they really cost.

I have Plantar Fasciitis in both feet, but my left foot seems to be the worse of the two. And they made it sound like they were very good supportive shoes, which is what I need.

Anyone have any experiences they would like to share to make me feel better about spending $70.00 on a pair of shoes I’ve never tried on  Was that stupid? No, they do have a 30-day money back guarantee.

(just trying to make myself feel better) :teehee: :teehee:

Me an my family LOVE  our birkenstocks! Those are the only sandals we wear!!

They are hard at first because they will mold to your feet. But they are “broken in” it will feel like you are walking on clouds!

doglover…
i had a pair for years in college. i wore them everyday, regardless of the weather and i loved them.
the cork bottoms make them rather squishy and comfy. i will tell you that if you try them on and they don’t feel that great, give them a while and break them in. the bottoms will mold to your foot and then they will fit like a glove. it’s the kind of shoe that only the owner could love, you could never slip someone else’s on and think it’s comfy.
good luck with them! i hope they work out for you!

I used to ONLY wear Birkies. I actually own around 9 pair of various styles (sandals and clogs) Then I found Crocs and now I wear those exclusively! I have since found the Birkies to be too hard on my feet. I love the Crocs and love that they conform to my feet. I’m about to buy a pair of closed toe/heel Crocs for my new job at a bookstore. I can’t wait for them to show up. I have hobbit feet (short and wide, but lacking in hair thank goodness) and can’t wear anything that has a pointy toe. Talk to your orthopaedist about what s/he recommends. My best friend is the one that turned me on to crocs, she has arthritis in her feet and has had to have special insoles made for her shoes. Ther doctor told her to try Crocs and she is in heaven now! Walked all over NYC and Disneyworld in her Crocs all day without having any foot pain!

But for the hippy-geek factor, Birkies rock!

psssst… www.crocs.com (other one is spelled wrong! I do it every time myself and even did it when i went to correct it!)

i love crocs too…i have three pairs and don’t feel like it is enough. i even wear them to work with my skirts on the days i just can’t deal with dress shoes. that isn’t to say they look beautiful with my skirts but i just don’t care…lol The other day i got home between jobs and only had time to tinkle and change my shoes. I was wearing an orange shirt, brown skirt, and hot pink crocs when i got to the other job! :teehee: (i was still better dressed than most of the people there…they usually show up in their jamma pants and fuzzy slippers…seriously!)

anyway i don’t know anything about the off brand crocs but i do love the real ones!

ooooooooh and if they had a CLEAR version…can you imagine?! the sock possibilities!!!

Doglover- CROCS!!! I have tried Briks and wasn’t crazy about them. I have PF too, but only in one foot. With my Crocs I walk about as I once did! Send back the Birks and buy 2 pairs of Crocs.

I bought a pair last year from QVC and I could not wait to get them. But I have LONG toes and they did not fit me right. So back they went.

I have since found similar elsewhere that work for me and I’m happy.

I    my Birks!! I was a little    at first about spending $100 for them! DH swooooore I wouldn’t be sorry…and he was SO right. They lasted me 10 years. Last year I got a new pair, but got smart and ordered them from Germany on eBay. Only $60! IMHO a wonderful bargain. I wear them 9 months out of the year. Favorite. shoes. ever.

I wear only Birks and Crocs. I’ve had several hip replacements, dislocation, other hip/leg surgeries, etc and these are the only shoes that I can wear that help with the pain. Crocs are automatically comfy to wear, but as mentioned before, you have to break in your birks. $70 is a good deal, by the way :cheering:
One of the places that Lonnie and I go on our Christmas vacation is to the Birk outlet in Orlando…I have gotten clogs there for as little as $35!!! Gotta love that :cheering:

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend them :cheering:

I    my Birks. I like my Crocs but my feet get too hot in them. I guess that is because I wear my Birk sandles all year round. Give them time to break in and find a shoe repair place that is autorized to replace the soles. You can also usually take them to a Birk store but it is more expensive and takes two weeks (an eternity to wait for comfy shoes :pout: ). I have taken mine in twice, once for sole replacement and they need to go again. If you take care of your Birks they will last a long time.

WOW  I can’t believe how much you all love your shoes. :teehee: I’ve never had a pair that I could gush over in my life. I’m looking forward to this… :teehee:

I have to say that after looking at the crocs, they don’t really seem like my taste. The only one I could find that I like the most was the ballerina shoe. Its called Prima. I don’t really care for the others. Maybe I’d feel differently if I saw them in person.

Thanks for making me feel better about my purchase. I’ve never
bought shoes without trying them on first.

Oh, this is funny and shocking too…one woman called in during the QVC show and said she had over 130 pairs of Birkenstocks!! Can you imagine?

yeah you totally wouldn’t feel differently looking at the crocs. they are pretty ugly but seriously…i couldn’t care less because they feeeeeeeeeeeel GREAT!

I am a birki lover too! I have several pairs. I have found that the White Mountain clogs are similar to birkis in comfort, but the sizes are WAY wierd— all of my shoes are an 8.5 and I wear a 10 in WM!!

but back to the birks… You will LOVE them. They are my favorite shoes EVER. If I’m not in my birks, I’m barefoot. QVC has a great return policy too (I’m a QVC whore) so if they don’t work out for you, you’ll be able to exchange them.

You got me looking at the new Crocs now! LOL, I like the kids maryjanes! Wish they had them for grown ups!

You are gonna love your birks. When you 1st get them, if you bend them a bit it will help with breaking in. 130 pairs, eh?! I have 13 or 14 pair, I don’t see myself catching up with her

I know! I thought I heard her say she had 30 pairs (which is a ton of shoes to me) and then when they said, 30 pairs wow she’s like, no, 130(ish) pairs!!!

Hard to believe… :??

OMGoodness, Lonnie knows me SO WELL. I love, love mary janes and used to wear them all of the time, but since I found that Birks and Crocs actually help my hip and leg that’s all I wear. Well, he just walked in a few moments ago with another pair of Crocs for me…seems as though the mary janes are also available in adult sizes :cheering: :cheering:

THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKS Becca, just RUB IT IN that you have the BEST husband in the WORLD why doncha!!!

Okay…that’s…Not a problem

Everybody in the family loves their birks. Here is a place to find some great deals. My DH loves the Madera birks. Here is a great size chart for birks. We wear the sandals and the shoes.

Birks will help you work the muscles from your knees to your toes. This can hurt a little in the beginning. IF you wear them every other day, or a few hour everyday to start, it helps.
