Original SnB book pattern help needed

Does anyone have the original SnB book that will look at a pattern with me?

I’m making Meema’s Felted Marsupial Bag on page172. And I having trouble with two parts:

  1. When I made the pouch, it didn’t seem to work at all. I finally gave up trying to follow the pattern. The place that didn’t work was were it says at the beginning “work 5 rows in garter stitch…” When I did this it would have made the pouch so tiny, it wouldn’t have been useable, especially after felting. So I made it 5" instead of 5 rows.

  2. In the bag itself, it says (this is the third paragraph of the directions)
    knit " every row until the bag measures 10" from base. Switch to CC and k 4 rnds." Then you would start binding off the side for the handles. But when I did this it seems too short. When I looked at the picture on page 131, it seems like there are a lot more than 4 rows of CC below the handles. Do you think this is supposed to mean 4 “inches” instead of 4 rows?

Can one pattern really have two of the same mistakes in it, or am I being dense here?

Here’s a link to the corrections page but I think what yousaid made a lot more sense than the pattern. I say go with what you know! :thumbsup:

Thanks Feministmama! I was wondering how corrections happened for books…

I will following my gut here and knit it the way that makes sense. Cross your fingers for me, I’m making two of these as project bags for a gift for my knitting mentor. Her surprise birthday party is this weekend and I’m hoping I can get these done in time and they won’t be too wacky looking, lol!

I knit a bunch of these–but without the pouch…here’s a couple pics of mine, I followed the pattern when it came to the striping instructions[size=6][/size][size=7][/size]
